ABSTRAK
This study aims at (1) increasing students' concepts mastery, (2) improving scientific performance of students, and (3) describing the responses of students to the implemention of the model project based learning (PBL) in teaching physics. The subjects of this study were Lab high school Undiksha Singaraja students in grade X.3 on the second semester of the academic year 2009/2010. The number of the students were 38 students in which the number between male and female students were equal. The objects of this study were the concepts mastery, scientific performance, and student responses.
Data about students’ concepts mastery were analyzed descriptively then followed by data justification according to the guidelines of justification. The findings of this study show that (1) the average of students' concepts mastery increased, from 71.0 with classical mastery 68.4% and standard deviation of 5.6 in cycle I became 76.1 with classical mastery 89.5% and standard deviation 6.3 in cycle II, (2) the average of students’ scientific performance increased from 70.0 with standard deviation of 5.3 and the categories was quite active in cycle I became 74.9 with a standard deviation of 5.7 and active categories in the cycle II, and (3) student response to the implementation of the model project based learning (PBL) obtained a mean score of 59.8 with a standard deviation of 3.4 and categorized as positive. The results of data analysis show the implementation of the model project based learning (PBL) can enhance the mastery of scientific concepts and the performance of grade X.3 students in Laboratory senior high school Undiksha Singaraja academic year 2009/2010.
